Blogging can lose your job!!

Have a blog, lose your job?
Workers with Web logs are everywhere, and they're starting to make corporate America very
nervous.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Mark Jen landed a dream job with Google Inc. in January. He was fired
less than a month later.
His infraction? He ran a Web log, where he freely gabbed about his impressions of life at
the Mounain View, Calif.-based Internet search giant.Web logs, or blogs, the online personal diaries where big names and no names expound on everything from pets to presidents, are going mainstream. While still a relatively small piece of total online activity, blogging has caught on with affluent young adults. As Forrester Research analysts recently noted, blogging will become increasingly common as these consumers age.

For companies, the growing popularity of blogs is a double-edged sword. On the one hand,
corporate managers recognize the power of word-of-mouth as a sales tool. On the other hand,
they're acutely aware of the dangers inherent in the rapid and widespread dissemination of
company information.

"Blogs are enabling people to have a conversation with a much wider audience," said Kurt
Opsahl, a staff attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a group that monitors
Internet use and privacy rights. "They're saying the same things that people would routinely
say around the water cooler, only now they're saying them in a forum that can be read by
millions of people."

Even though employee blogging ranks behind personal Internet and e-mail use at work, Google
and other companies are starting to crack down.
A former Delta Air Lines flight attendant claims she was fired in November over pictures she
posted on her personal blog that she says the airline deemed "inappropriate." Friendster, an
online social networking site, canned an employee last summer for her online musings about
the company. And a Microsoft contractor lost his gig after posting on the Web photos of
Apple computers arriving at the software giant's Redmond, Wash., headquarters.

Phising - I did it ; and i confess

Phising - you know the old trick to lure people to believe what is not true and make them reveal their personal informaion.Well its a real danger and you need to be carefull.see what arun says about phising arun's blog

Here i am letting the world into the murky world of phising - no i am not going to tell you exactly how i did it.But i will drop sufficient hints on the way so that you people are aware of what you are against and what you need to do so as not to become a victim.

and for that u need to listen ...
From here on what i am saying is truth , the complete truth..

okay - so lets plunge
what you need to be aware of is that its easy to do , but requires a bit of cunningness to execute. All that is required is a server space..

continuing with the story.. i had this plan from the day i learnt that the source could be viewed without much effort. But it took a long time just to know that merely a copy , paste wont work here .
and still so many months later , came the site and with it an oppurtunity. But lacking the required skills and the tools needed what could i do?
come srijith
and the guy was very much thrilled to implement such an idea that the page was actually made.. i dunno where it lies..
and seems its no longer online.
So the guy comes with the novel idea of yahoo greetings and voila we got victims. (only our friends - not any outsiders for the link was never given out )

and after so many months still later when i got server access (college) i too did it.This being my idea , i did it perfectly (but giving sufficient hints for the would be victims to realise their fault)
and here they are... you will understand that any user with atleast some common sense could make out the trap.

AND Y DID I STOP?
because of this

Arun: wat donin? .. heard u putting phishin sites on mec .?
me: from whom?
Arun: where are u putting it ?
me: srijith told u?
Arun: if its on www.mec.ac.in ... pls stop it
me: hm ok comin back to phising who told u ?
i'll remove it ifts publicly available
Arun: i jst told ... if some1 reports it as phishing ... then i think whole domain ll get that status
its nt nice naa browsers saying .... www.mec.ac.in is phshing site

me: gud - be assured the link aint publicly available - just put it deep inside theh syllabus and the link was given only to u and srijith

i stopped . Not before i told my victims (so this is a public confession) and there have been only two of them..

Thats all fine , so how do I protect myself?
simple , always look at the url and update your browser; they warn u against phising

please do comment about this post, i would be glad.

happy surfing

In computing, phishing is a criminal activity using social engineering techniques. Phishers attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy person or business in an electronic communication.
